History

As we focus on our future, we are also proud of our past 20-plus year history. Affiliated as the 284th member of the Association of Junior Leagues International in 1995, JLKD was founded in 1992 as a volunteer organization for women interested in making a positive impact on the communities in DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will Counties. Previously known as the Junior League of Greater DuKane, Inc., we changed our name in 2002 to the Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties, Inc. to gain recognition within the communities we serve.

JLKD is also part of a broader mission that dates to 1901. We carry on the tradition of “independent thought” established by Mary Harriman, the founder of Junior League, and share the belief that people should help without pay to give others the opportunity to achieve, learn and live with dignity.

Some of our past programs include a 20,000 Book Drive for schools, Cinderella’s Closet which provided prom dresses to high school girls, Frosty’s Closet provided winter clothing to local residents, and creation of a Children’s Waiting Room at a local judicial center, among many others.

As JLKD evolves and grows its legacy into the future, we remain firmly rooted in our history of developing the potential of women and children, because together, we are unstoppable!
