Little Black Dress Initiative is November 8-14, 2020!
What is the Little Black Dress Initiative?
The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a week long, social media-driven campaign. Through this initiative Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties (JLKD) members and the community come together to increase awareness of food insecurity and poverty in our area. LBDI Advocates will wear the same black dress (or black outfit) for 5 consecutive days to illustrate the effects poverty can have on a person’s access to resources, confidence, and professional opportunities.
Be ready to join us during the week of November 8 – 14, 2020!
How to get involved?
This is a public event – you do not have to be a member of the Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties, Inc. to participate. Anyone can sign up to raise awareness and funds to fight the factors that contribute to and perpetuate poverty. Both women and men can participate by wearing a black dress or outfit for 5 consecutive days.
During the initiative, LBDI Advocates will post photos of themselves on social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) along with information about JLKD, our local community’s needs, and statistical information as it relates to our focus areas of shelter, health, and education.
Our goal is to bring awareness to poverty and community needs and how JLKD addresses those needs! What’s great about LBDI is that you can participate from ANYWHERE! Will YOU say yes to wearing the little black dress?!
If you’d like to learn more about upcoming LBDI events or how to participate, please complete the LBDI Participation Form and sign up to attend one of our upcoming info sessions.
Perhaps wearing a black outfit for five days isn’t possible for you, but you can still participate through one of the following opportunities:
LBDI 2020 T-Shirt: Order a 2020 LBDI t-shirt. A portion of proceeds will go toward our overall fundraising goal.
Follow us: Support our efforts on social media @JLKDServes and #LBDI #JLKDdoesLBDI #askmeaboutmydress #juniorleague
Spark a Conversation: Share a statistic regarding the impact of poverty in our community (be sure to tag @JLKDServes).
What do the funds support?
All funds raised during LBDI week will go towards the Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties’ mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Our history with the Little Black Dress Initiative
In March 2020, JLKD kicked off its first Little Black Dress Initiative! The week consisted of multiple events that raised awareness about poverty in our community while training and empowering our members to advocate for the causes they care about. We raised $3,285 to help local families in need.
For November 2020, we have set a goal to raise $4,000 to help local families in need.
