Readers on the Run 5K Supports Local At-Risk Children

AURORA, IL (July 18, 2013) —The Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties, Inc. (JLKD) is hosting its third annual Readers on the Run 5K and Kids Fun Run fundraiser on September 28, 2013 at Mooseheart Child City and School in Batavia, IL. All proceeds from the event support JLKD’s literacy and school readiness programs, which benefit local at-risk children.

The 5K is a USATF certified course. Baby joggers and walkers are allowed. The 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. The Kids Fun Run kicks off at 9:15 a.m. and is approximately a half-mile.

“We are grateful to our community partner Mooseheart Child City and School for providing a beautiful course that is both challenging and fun.  We encourage families to join us to promote, celebrate and raise critical funds for local early childhood literacy and school readiness programs,” says JLKD President Kristin Celing.

Runners are encouraged to bring a book for our book drive. All donated books will be given back to community partners in the western suburbs, supporting literacy programs.

Registration is open now through September 21 at jlkd.org. Race fees are $30 for adults, $25 for ages 11-15, $10 for ages 5-10 and free for children 4 and under. Day of registration will be available from 6:45-7:30 a.m. for an additional $5 fee. For sponsorship opportunities please contact run@jlkd.org.
